Ed Pope reporter, in his Dartmoor writing hide-away, receives a surprise visit - his sister Julia. Within minutes he’s caught up in a deadly race against time to stay alive and ahead of relentless professional killers, UK security services and police, all seemingly wanting Julia silenced.
Against the background of continuing terrorism following the mass murders at New York’s Twin Towers and London’s Underground, Britain’s security services are stretched and concentrated on Islamist extremists. But now there’s a new player, highly organized and ruthless, intent on the cessation of nuclear power production and closure or destruction of Sellafield, UK’s radioactive waste management plant.
Ed suspects a conspiracy, finds love, battles to the very end as the deadline expires. Power zero, the minutes tick by, 21 tanks containing radioactive liquid waste, deprived of power and cooling, approach boiling point and destruction. The radioactive cloud will cover the north of England, reach Norway and Ireland and will kill or maim hundreds of thousands.

This was a very good thriller to read. It was difficult at first to get into the book, at times I was confused because of all the many different character lines, but once that was all sorted it out, things started to move along. I would even say that things moved a bit slow, but then after getting through a good chunk of the book, things picked up at a good pace - to the point where I couldn't keep it down. Parts of the book seemed like they were expected - like you know what to expect next, but then there were some twists along the way. Some characters seemed to fall from the scene - such as Julia, who sort of begins as the main character, along with her brother Ed, then after awhile, focus is off Julia - you come back to her from time to time as if she is an after thought. Good book and good thriller, but at times difficult to believe how Ed can get in and out of situations the way he does.Product details
